Comfort

As both destiny and purpose continue to place a demand on our faith and creativity, I am now of the belief that comfort and familiarity are enemies to a purpose filled life. We have to become comfortable with being uncomfortable, and become familiar with what's unfamiliar. Why, because He knows what He's doing (smile...memory scripture 2).

Just sharing my thoughts as I meditate and ponder on this wonderful Friday morning.

These are very good words to ponder. To be honest, this area of life is probably one of the most challenging for me. When things are going awry or life is demanding me to at least step one toe outside of my box of familiarity...to just peak outside the corner of the box...I often instead run for cover, setup shop, and get cozy in my box. It is easy to become oblivious to great possibilities and the destiny within when you're nonchalantly going along with everyday life. Now, those who know me, know that I'm all about comfort. Show me to an oversized stuffed chair, fill my mug with hot tea (thank God for deliverance from coffee), and give me a good book to read and I'm comfortable and content. ;-) Of course, I know this type of comfort is different than what you described, but similar to burying your nose behind a book, if you do not step outside areas that are comfortable and familiar to you to seek change and destiny, you could quite easily keep reading the same story for your life day in and day out.

How true. The good thing about discomfort and discontentment is that they make us move! Have you ever heard someone say that they finally pursued their true dreams after they were so beat down and broken that they didn't have anything else to lose? ...or have you ever heard someone say that they'd lost everything and were sitting someplace one day and could hear the Lord speak to them? I'm telling you. I'm a believer that He makes sure we get uncomfortable because sometimes that's what it takes for us to open our eyes and ears to see and hear Him and to do what He says do. It's certainly not the only way, but sometimes we get complacent and need a nudge so we can be reminded that He is in charge and that we need to be operating in what He has goin' on.

Does anybody use MSN Instant Messenger? Have you ever been "nudged" on an IM chat? The first time you get a nudge, don't you look up and start checking out your machine to see what's wrong? We need a nudge. We need to be discomforted at times.

Yes, comfort, familiarity, complacency...they're all great. ...but they can also be tools of the enemy. So be ready to get shaken! Be okay with that! Give yourself a nudge even! Let's not always be so quick to fall back into the familiar as we continue on this journey to live our lives on purpose.
